Downtown Waxhaw is excited to celebrate Independent Retailer Month this July—a nationwide initiative that recognizes the impact of locally owned businesses on our economy, community & quality of life.
With more than 120 small businesses in our downtown district, this month is all about celebrating what makes Waxhaw unique: our passionate entrepreneurs, handcrafted goods, and the strong community ties that make shopping here so special.
WHY SHOP LOCAL
Independent retailers—often called “indie retailers”—do more than sell products. They:
Foster a sense of place and identity
Support job creation and entrepreneurship
Reinvest back into the local economy.
In fact, 68¢ of every dollar spent at a local business stays in the community. That ripple effect helps fund our schools, services & events that bring Waxhaw to life.
TOWN OF WAXHAW PROCLAMATION
At their June 24 meeting, the Waxhaw Board of Commissioners formally proclaimed their support for Independent Retailer Month and encouraged all residents to shop local this July—and throughout the year.

We’re celebrating all month long, but don’t miss our Indie Retail Weekend:
Friday, July 11: Many shops will stay open late alongside the Town’s Jammin’ by the Tracks concert at Community Corner.
Saturday & Sunday (July 12–13): Enjoy local sales, sidewalk specials, pop-ups, and activities throughout downtown!
