DOWNTOWN WAXHAW
MASTER PLAN
We need your voiceβbecause no one knows Waxhaw better than you.
Downtown Waxhaw is our shared homeβand its future depends on input from the people who love it most: YOU.
Our Online Community Survey is live now through May 31st, and by spending just a few minutes sharing your thoughts, youβll help guide what Downtown looks, feels & functions like over the next 5β10 years.
Ready to make an impact?
This is your chance to shape the futureβnot just through conversation, but through action.
Downtown Waxhaw is at a pivotal moment. Our community is growingβbringing exciting new possibilities, but also challenges that we must address thoughtfully and together.
To help guide this change, the Town of Waxhaw and the Downtown Waxhaw Association have partnered with The Boudreaux Group to create a Downtown Master Planβa roadmap for the next 5β10 years that will help us shape the future of Downtown Waxhaw in a way that reflects our community values.
This plan isnβt about changing who we areβitβs about protecting what makes Waxhaw special, while preparing for the future in a responsible, balanced, and sustainable way.
What is the Downtown Waxhaw Master Plan?
Why does the Downtown Master Plan Matter?
-
Growth is inevitableβbut how we grow is up to us. This plan focuses on preserving our historic charm while planning for thoughtful, community-focused development.
-
The plan will provide clear policy guidance to help Town leaders make decisions that align with our shared goals.
-
From parking and lighting to walkability and accessibility, the plan will outline key priorities and how to implement them.
-
Residents, business owners, and stakeholders are actively involved in shaping the plan, ensuring it reflects a wide range of voices.
-
With measurable goals and a 10-year action framework, weβll be able to track our progress and adapt as neededβtogether.
-
As part of Waxhawβs FY25 Capital Improvement Plan, the Downtown Master Plan will focus on:
Thoughtful infill development that complements existing architecture
Parking strategies and streetscape lighting enhancements
Improved accessibility and walkability
A 10-year roadmap with clear goals, action steps, and metrics

Imagine a Downtown Waxhaw that's not only beautiful and bustling, but also safer and more accessible for everyone. Safety, accessibility, and walkability are key priorities in our Downtown Master Plan.
We've partnered with the Town of Waxhaw to include transportation safety questions in our Community Survey to support Waxhaw's Safety Action Plan (SAP).
The SAP, required for federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) funding, will establish a safety vision, guide investments, and provide actionable recommendations.
This plan will enable Waxhaw to apply for additional funding to implement safety-focused transportation improvements, reducing accidents, enhancing accessibility, and supporting community quality of life.
Another way to contribute to Waxhaw's Safety Action Plan is by participating in an interactive mapping activity.
Your input will help create a community-based map of local safety issues and transportation challenges.
You'll place markers on a digital map to identify locations where you've experienced safety concerns while walking, biking, driving, or using other forms of transportation.
When placing markers on the map, you'll categorize your safety concerns into categories:
Destinations: pinpoint locations where transportation safety hazards exist
Challenges: mark areas that present challenges to transportation safety
Opportunities: highlight areas with potential for safety improvements or examples of good safety practices
You can also place pins related to the Downtown Master Plan, highlighting specific areas with safety concerns.
To add a marker:
Navigate the map to find your desired location
Click the "Add Marker" button
Place the pin on the map
Select a category (destinations, challenges, opportunities or downtown)
Provide details about the safety concern or improvement
Submit your marker
