Downtown Waxhaw Holiday Happenings
The holiday season is a magical time of year in Downtown Waxhaw! Mark your calendars for these upcoming events, from tree lightings and parades to special shopping experiences.
As you plan your holiday activities, we encourage you to support our local businesses whenever possible. By choosing to shop local, you're not only checking items off your gift list but also strengthening the small business community that makes Downtown Waxhaw so special.
Light Up Waxhaw
Kick off the festivities at Light Up Waxhaw on Saturday, Nov. 23. Beginning at 3 p.m., the Waxhaw Parks & Recreation Department will host a family-friendly Touch-a-Truck event at the Downtown Park. A sensory-friendly hour will take place from 3–4 p.m., with no lights or horns. Santa Claus will make a special appearance, accompanied by his friends at the Waxhaw Fire, Police, and Public Services departments, offering families a chance to explore safety vehicles and take photos!
At 6 p.m., the Downtown Park will host a tree-lighting ceremony. Holiday lights throughout downtown and the new tree in the park will illuminate, marking the start of a magical evening and season. This is the perfect time to enjoy dinner at one of our local restaurants and get a head start on your holiday shopping, as many downtown shops will remain open late.
Shop Small Weekend
Support local businesses during Shop Small Weekend on Black Friday, Nov. 29, and Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30. Downtown Waxhaw’s shops and restaurants will offer unique holiday items and dining experiences, with special “Shop Small” swag available for shoppers. Families can also enjoy an Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt throughout participating businesses.
Free Gift-Wrapping Station
This holiday season, enjoy complimentary gift wrapping at the Downtown Waxhaw Association’s Gift-Wrapping Station, located at the Duncan McDonald House (115 McDonald St). The station will be open from 12–6 p.m. on Nov. 30 and from 12:30–4 p.m. on Dec. 7, 14, and 21. Limited-edition Downtown Waxhaw merchandise will also be available for purchase—perfect for a unique gift or keepsake.
Waxhaw Christmas Parade
Don’t miss the annual Waxhaw Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m. The parade will feature festive floats and performances by local marching bands. Many downtown shops and restaurants will be open, making it a great day to grab lunch and browse for gifts before enjoying the festivities.
Menorah Lighting Ceremony
Join Waxhaw's annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony, hosted with the Ballantyne Jewish Center, on Thursday, Dec. 26. Children's activities begin at 5:00pm, followed by the ceremony at 5:30pm at the Big Oak Tree Bandstand near the Railroad Overhead Bridge on E. N. Main Street.
